Los Angeles: Lights, camera, action! The glitz and glamour of the 96th Academy Awards have descended upon the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. As celebrities strut down the red carpet, excitement builds for a night celebrating the best of cinema. Christopher Nolan's biopic Oppenheimer was leading the pack with 13 nominations, followed closely by Poor Things and Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon.

Oppenheimer, which is for adults only (R-rated), was the big winner at the Oscars 2024. It won seven out of 13 awards it was nominated for, including Best Picture and Best Director for Christopher Nolan, who won his first Oscar.

Many members of the Oppenheimer team won their first Oscars this year, including Cillian Murphy for Best Actor, Robert Downey Jr for Best Supporting Actor, Hoyte van Hoytema for Best Cinematography, and Jennifer Lame for Best Film Editing.

Emma Stone won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Poor Things, beating out the expected favourite, Lily Gladstone from Killers of the Flower Moon. This is Stone's second Best Actress Oscar; she won her first in 2017 for La La Land.

Billie Eilish made history by becoming the youngest person to win two Oscars at the age of 22. She won best song for What Was I Made For? from the Barbie movie.

The 2023 Oscars came at a tough time for Hollywood. There were labour disputes between major studios and actors/writers unions, leading to costly strikes and a halt in film production. Much of the debate was about how streaming has changed the industry and affected talent earnings.

Returning for the fourth time as host was the ever-entertaining Jimmy Kimmel. Having previously hosted in 2017, and 2018, and returning in 2023, Kimmel is sure to bring his signature humour to the stage once again. Jimmy started the ceremony with jokes about the Academy snubbing Greta Gerwig, the length of nominated films, and Robert De Niro's girlfriend, who is much younger.

Below are the nominees in several top categories while winners are marked in bold.
