(on the protest of Australian swimmer Mack Horton in South Korea and the consequences for Tokyo 2020)
"2020 Olympics is another story, not like the World Championships. World Championships, I think we have fantastic venues, fantastic attendances, swimmers were very happy, and the incident happened, it was not something that we had some experience of in the past, but for sure is not going to happen anymore in the future. I am convinced about that, because we discussed with the coaches, we discussed with the swimmers and (it) was just an incident without any really particular importance in our sport."

13. 01.56 SOUNDBITE (English): Cornel Marculescu Executive Director, FINA
(on his expectations of Tokyo 2020, the preparations and the heat)
"I am sure that our athletes they know how to do, to adapt themselves to the weather. We have indoor venues, then - except the marathon swimming - all the venues are indoor. For swimming, for diving, for artistic swimming, water polo. Then, not so much important impact for the weather. The same situation in Fukuoka in 2021. Then... we are obliged to leave in this weather. We have no other choice but I don't think so the weather will influence in any way the value of the competition."

FINA chief Cornel Marculescu spoke to the media in Tokyo, Japan on Thursday and said he was not expecting a repeat of the podium protests which cast a shadow over the recent swimming World Championships at the 2020 Olympic Games.
In South Korea, last month, China's Sun Yang took gold in the men's 400 metres freestyle final, but Mack Horton of Australia, who finished second, refused to share the podium with him on the grounds that Yang was a drugs cheat.
Britain's Duncan Scott staged a similar protest against the Chinese swimmer after the men's 200 metres final.
Sun Yang served a three month doping ban in 2014 and was cleared of another doping offence in January.
Marculescu said he has made it clear to athletes and their coaches that medals could be rescinded if similar protests are conducted in the future.
