Former navy cook arrested for killing wife, mutilating body; Police solve murder mystery within a week in Gurugram

The accused was in a relationship with another woman since 2018. When his wife learnt about her husband's illicit relationship quarrels broke out between them frequently.

Gurugram: Police have arrested a retired cook of the Indian Navy on charges of killing his wife, mutilating and burning the body before dumping the parts at different places in Haryana's Gurugram. The accused had later filed a missing complaint of his wife. The Gurugram police have solved the murder mystery within a week and the accused was produced before the court. The court has ordered him police custody for three days.

On April 21 police recovered a partially burnt woman's torso from Manesar area of Gurugram. Gurugram DCP crime, Vijay Gupta said the head, hands and feet of the woman were missing. Police also found a polythene bag from the spot with a seal showing that it was manufactured in Visakhapatnam. Investigations were initiated and in the meantime, the woman's feet were recovered from Kherkidola area along with the same polythene bag.

During investigation, police learnt that the Visakhapatnam-based factory manufactures such polythene bags only for the Indian Navy. The police then started looking for cases in which Navy employees or officers are involved. While studying the case histories of all women who went missing in recent past, police came across a case where the woman had gone missing in Manesar police station area and her husband had lodged a missing complaint on April 21. On probing the case details, it was revealed that her husband was a retired Navy cook.

Police said they started analysing CCTV footage and it was found that the accused was present in all the spots where the body parts were found. DCP Gupta said it was found that Jitendra's wife Sonia was not seen outside the house on April 21 while the accused was seen with a trolley bag, which initially appeared to be heavy. After some time, when Jitendra returned on his bike, the trolley bag appeared empty, police said.

The accused, identified as Jitendra was arrested by the police on April 26 from a bus stand. During interrogation, Jitendra said that he first strangulated his wife to death and then dismembered the body in the bathroom after which, he threw the body parts in different places of Gurugram. Police recovered Sonia's head from a pond near KMP.

According to the police, in 2018, Jitendra met a woman from Bihar in the train. The two got into a relationship and the woman gave birth to a child. After Sonia came to know about her husband's illicit relationship, quarrels broke out in the family. Police said Jitendra murdered his wife after their daughter left for school. Before the girl returned home, Jitendra completed dismembering the body. The accused is in police custody for three days and he will be interrogated during this period, police said.
