In a first of its kind, Madurai Railway Division is carrying new tractors from TAFE factory at Vadipatti here to Bangladesh in its goods train.

Madurai:For the first time, Southern Railway’s train on Friday exported more than 170 indigenously manufactured tractors to Bangladesh from Tamil Nadu's Madurai town.

According to reports, Madurai Railway Division has started carrying new tractors from TAFE factory at Vadipatti in Madurai to Bangladesh in its goods train.

In 2019, the factory had carried 12 goods trainloads of tractors and made a revenue of Rs 2.33 crore. This year, the revenue has gone up to Rs 11.78 crore after 61 rakes were used to transport tractors till date, reports said.

"For the first time, More than 170 tractors have been shipped to Bangladesh in 25 freight trains. These tractors are sent from Vadipatti to the Benapole railway station in Bangladesh," an official of the factory said.

Meanwhile, Union Railways Minister, Piyush Goyal took to Twitter and praised the achievement of the Southern Railway.

"A Tractor March With a Difference: Railways Train loaded 25 wagons of tractors Tractor from Vadiapatti in Tamil Nadu to Benapole in Bangladesh Flag of Bangladesh. India with its superior and competitive agricultural technology and equipment is emerging as a key supplier to the world," he said.
