Zafar Sareshwala, the one-time admirer of Narendra Modi, spoke at length about the 2002 Gujarat riots and how the lives of 50 lakh Muslim were at stake. In an exclusive interview with ETV Bharat, Sareshwala, Former Vice-Chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu University told why he approached then Chief Minister Modi to have a lasting solution to the prevailing problem. There ought to be "someone from the community" who had to reach out, he said. Also, he tellingly told that the Muslim community "never said that Modi was behind the riots" but as the CM of the state he ought to take the responsibility for the loss of innocent Muslims.  Zafar went on to add that Mahesh Bhatt's support gave him a lot of confidence. Bhatt was an integral part of the movement. "The fight with Modi was not personal. My family has always been the victim of riots," he added.
