Lakhimpur Kheri (Lucknow): Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress general secretary and UP incharge who is on her three-day tour of the state, arrived in Lakhimpur Kheri from Lucknow this morning. President of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee Ajay Kumar Lallu and Aradhana Mishra also accompanied Priyanka in her convoy. She met the women who were allegedly molested while filing their nomination for Kshetra Panchayat President in Pasgawan block. A large number of police forces have also been deployed at the homes of the victims located at Semra Ghat in the district, in lieu of Priyanka's visit.

"No matter which party we belong to, we are women, such a thing should never happen with any woman," Priyanka Vadra said. The Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, speaking to media also demanded that the recently held panchayat elections in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh be cancelled, and re-polls be held.

Congress leader Priyanka had arrived in Lucknow on Friday amid a rousing reception by party workers. She spent four and a half hours with the party leaders brainstorming and chalking out various strategies for the 2022 Assembly polls in the state, which includes strengthening the organization and encouraging office bearers and key officials and district heads. Priyanka has also given a mantra to the workers, telling them to visit every village from the booth level and connect with everyone like a family and today she has started a decisive battle with this government. She also advised the party workers to work for 24 hours, such that they can form the next government in Uttar Pradesh.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) on July 8 had taken suo motu cognizance of an incident wherein a woman was allegedly attacked and misbehaved with and her saree was pulled in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. The Commission took action after it was tagged on Twitter showing a video clip of two men pulling a woman by her sari during the nomination for the block chairman polls. Some of the other women too had complained of misbehavior by some men.

Priyanka Vadra's visit to the state comes as it prepares for the Assembly polls early next year. She faces an uphill task of reviving the party to a position of strength in the politically crucial state where the Congress was relegated to margins in the 2017 polls, swept by the BJP.
