Constable Hafiz is a resident of Karnah in north Kashmir's Kupwara district but presently lives in Bemina, a police official said. He was shifted to nearby SKIMS (Bemina) hospital for treatment, the official added. "He is said to be stable. He has bullet injuries in the right arm and abdomen...Police have also launched a cordon in the area to nab the attackers," the official said.

This comes a day after ADGP (Law and Order) Vijay Kumar had directed all officers and other ranks to strictly follow the Standard Operating Procedures while on leave or duty. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the wreath-laying ceremony at DPL Srinagar for slain police inspector Masroor Ahmed Wani, who died on Thursday at AIIMS Delhi after suffering injuries in a militant attack on October 29, the ADGP Law and Order stated that officers and other ranks have been ordered to adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures.

To avoid becoming easy targets, Kumar said new directions have been passed to one and all to follow SoPs while on leave or while performing duties.
Inspector Wani was injured in a militant attack when he was playing cricket in the Eidgah area of Srinagar. The officer had been battling for life at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Srinagar since the attack. He was shifted to AIIMS Delhi on December 6 where he succumbed a day later.
