Melbourne: Karolina Muchova came back from 0-5 down in the second set to knock out fellow Czech and world number six Karolina Pliskova from the Australian Open on Saturday 7-5, 7-5.
A frustrated Pliskova threw her racquet on consecutive points whole losing the first set, then collapsed just a game away from sending the match to a decider in the second.
Meanwhile, Elina Svitolina has continued her quiet progression through the Australian Open draw to advance to the fourth round without dropping a set.
The Ukrainian fifth seed had too many guns for Yulia Putintseva, winning 6-4 6-0 in one hour, 23 minutes on Saturday.
The men's top doubles seeds are out in the second round.
The Kazakhstan duo of Alexander Bublik and Andrey Golubev knocked out the number one pair of Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah of Colombia 6-4, 6-4.
