Delhi: Bhim Army Chief Chandra Shekhar Azad along with Chief Information Commissioner(CIC) Wajahat Habibullah on Wednesday moved to the Supreme Court seeking to intervene in the case concerning clearance of anti-CAA protest site at Shaheen Bagh in Delhi.

Azad in his application has sought the apex court's permission to be heard on this issue. He allegedly claimed that the disturbance and inconvenience caused by Shaheen Bagh protest is actually due to the unnecessary road blockades imposed by Delhi and UP authorities.

"It is pertinent to mention that the Shaheen Bagh protests are peaceful protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act, as well as discrimination by removing reservation for SC, ST, OBCs etc., and has support from over 85% of the citizens which comprise of the citizens from Muslim minority, SC, ST, OBC, and other citizens who do not subscribe to Manuvadi ideology," the application said.

Many protesters fighting against the Citizenship Amendment Act(CAA) have been staging a sit-in protest at Delhi's Shaheen Bagh which has led to traffic congestion and closure of Kalindi Kunj road connecting Delhi and Noida.

When the road blockage matter was taken up for hearing earlier this week, the Supreme Court had issued notice to the concerned authorities. The court however is scheduled to hear the matter next on February 17.
