శ్రీలంక కోచ్​గా ఆర్థర్​.. తొలి మ్యాచ్​ పాక్​తో

దక్షిణాఫ్రికా మాజీ క్రికెటర్​ మిక్కీ ఆర్థర్​ శ్రీలంక జట్టు ప్రధాన కోచ్​గా పదవీ బాధ్యతలు చేపట్టాడు. ఇతడు రెండేళ్ల కాలానికి సేవలందిచనున్నట్లు వెల్లడించింది లంక బోర్డు. గతంలో మిక్కీ.. ఆస్ట్రేలియా, పాకిస్థాన్​, సఫారీ జట్లకు కోచ్​గా పనిచేశాడు.

శ్రీలంక క్రికెట్​ జట్టు నూతన కోచ్​గా బాధ్యతలు చేపట్టాడు పాకిస్థాన్​ మాజీ కోచ్​ మిక్కీ​ ఆర్థర్​. ఈ ఏడాది ప్రపంచకప్​లో శ్రీలంక జట్టు పేలవ ప్రదర్శన కారణంగా.. ఆ జట్టు ప్రధాన కోచ్​ చండికా హతురుసింఘెను తప్పించింది లంక బోర్డు. ఆ తర్వాత ఆగస్టు 14 నుంచి న్యూజిలాండ్​తో సిరీస్​కు తాత్కాలిక కోచ్​గా లంక మాజీ బౌలర్ రమేశ్ రత్ననాయకేకు బాధ్యతలు అప్పగించింది. తాజాగా పూర్తిస్థాయి కోచ్​గా ఆర్థర్​ గురువారం నియమితులయ్యాడు. రెండేళ్లపాటు జట్టుకు సేవలందించనున్నాడు.

ఆర్థర్​తో పాటు జింబాబ్వే ఆటగాడు గ్రాంట్‌ ఫ్లవర్‌ను బ్యాటింగ్‌ కోచ్‌గా, ఆస్ట్రేలియాకు చెందిన డేవిడ్‌ సకేర్‌ను బౌలింగ్‌ కోచ్‌గా, షేన్‌ మెక్‌డెర్మట్‌ను ఫీల్డింగ్‌ కోచ్‌గా నియమించింది. ఆర్థర్‌ గతంలో దక్షిణాఫ్రికా, ఆస్ట్రేలియా, పాకిస్థాన్​ జట్లకు కోచ్‌గా వ్యవహరించాడు.

తొలి మ్యాచ్​ దాయాదిపైనే...

కోచ్​గా బాధ్యతలు చేపట్టిన ఆర్థర్​కు​ ఆరంభంలోనే కఠిన సవాల్​ ఎదురుకానుంది. ఏ జట్టు నుంచి కోచ్​గా వైదొలిగాడో అదే జట్టుతో పోటీకి తన బృందంతో వెళ్తున్నాడు. పాకిస్థాన్​తో రెండు టెస్టులకు లంక జట్టు త్వరలో పాక్​కు పయనం కానుంది. డిసెంబరు 11-15 తేదీల్లో రావల్పిండి వేదికగా తొలి టెస్టు, అదే నెల 19-23 తేదీల్లో కరాచిలో రెండో టెస్టు ఆడనున్నాయి ఇరుజట్లు.

శ్రీలంకతో వన్డే, టీ20 సిరీస్‌లను తన సొంతగడ్డపై విజయవంతంగా నిర్వహించిన పాకిస్థాన్‌ క్రికెట్‌ బోర్డు (పీసీబీ).. ఆ జట్టుతో టెస్టు సిరీస్‌ను కూడా స్వదేశంలోనే నిర్వహించే దిశగా లంక బోర్డును ఒప్పించింది. ముందు పాకిస్థాన్‌లో పరిమిత ఓవర్ల క్రికెట్‌ సిరీస్‌ మాత్రమే ఆడేందుకు అంగీకరించిన లంక.. టెస్టుల్ని మాత్రం యూఏఈలో నిర్వహించాలని షరతు విధించింది. అయితే వన్డే, టీ20 సిరీస్‌లను పటిష్ఠ భద్రత మధ్య ఏ ఇబ్బందులూ రాకుండా నిర్వహించాక కూడా యూఏఈలోనే టెస్టులు ఆడాలని లంక పట్టుబట్టడాన్ని పీసీబీ తప్పుబట్టింది. యూఏఈలో ఆడాలంటే ఆతిథ్య ఖర్చుల్లో సగం భరించాలని మెలిక పెట్టింది. ఈ విషయమై చర్చల అనంతరం టెస్టు సిరీస్‌ కూడా పాక్‌లోనే ఆడేందుకు లంక అంగీకరించింది.

Vladimir Putin, when he engages in these kinds of contests, usually comes out ahead because he has tools in his toolbox that most people don't and moreover most people don't know how to respond to. So, he is a formidable player and he has set his sights on weakening NATO and weakening Europe and creating wedges between relationships the United States has with friends and allies, particularly those on Russia's periphery."

"Moscow is a master at disinformation and dividing allies and friends and placing a wedge between those who would otherwise be working together. So, it doesn't surprise me that that has gone on because that's true with NATO, it's true with many of our friends and partners in the European Union and it's just one of the parts of the toolbox that the Russian government has used, not just recently, but historically."

(On prospect of Russia meddling in 2020 U.S. election) "I think they're prepared to do whatever is in their interest and whatever serves their interests. And creating a weakened America, one that is divided where they sow seeds of doubt and confusion is I think something that they deem to be in their interests, so I think we need to be ever vigilant, every election cycle, to that kind of thing playing out. We need to be prepared for it. I don't know that we are, particularly at the local and the state level where some of the meddling in the future could take place. That's what I'm concerned about as much as anything."

(About whether he will endorse Donald Trump in 2020) "Well, I typically endorse the Republican nominee. That's what I'll do. And, uh, we'll see how everything else plays out but he has maintained a strong economy and we are not at war, which is what everybody was threatening: That our economy would tank and that we would be at war in no time at all. It hasn't played out. So, we hear a lot about the downside. I think the election is going to focus more on the upside of what we have experienced and people are going to make a decision based upon on that."

STORYLINE:
US President Donald Trump's former ambassador to Russia said Vladimir Putin is likely "joyful" about the renewed prominence of a debunked conspiracy theory that Ukraine was responsible for election meddling in 2016, one that experts consider Russian disinformation.
Jon Huntsman Jr. also said in an interview with The Associated Press that he's worried that the U.S. may not be prepared if Russia meddles again in 2020.
Huntsman left the Moscow post in October and on Thursday spoke to students at the University of Utah as he runs to return to his old job as governor of Utah.
He left in 2009 to serve as ambassador to China in the Obama administration.
While he didn't immediately endorse Trump for 2020, he said he'd back the GOP nominee, likely the president.
"He has maintained a strong economy and we are not at war ... we hear a lot about the downside. I think the election will focus more on the upside," Huntsman said
