Khandwa (Madhya Pradesh): While the country is under lockdown for 21 days to contain the spreading of COVID-19, some people are still not following the rules and are coming outside their houses. Police are also taking strict actions against these people.
But, in Madhya Pradesh's Khandwa district, police officials have initiated an innovative move to punish the people who are roaming on roads without any valid reason.
In order to give a positive message to the offenders, the policemen crown the people with a necklace of flowers and also they are asked to perform yoga on the road.
Beside this, there are policemen who are showcasing their art during the lockdown and are busy in harmonising songs for the offenders.
"Though it sounds funny this is the best way to make people aware without giving severe punishment. These practices are called 'Gandhigiri', which means the offenders feel guilty and will not perform the similar mistake again in the near future", said Khandwa Additional SP Seema Alawa to ETV Bharat.
Meanwhile, the confirmed cases of COVID-19 are now rocketed over 2069 and claimes 54 lives in the country, Health Ministry confirmed on Thursday evening.
The virus has killed over 51,000 globally with the largest number of deaths in Italy, followed by Spain and the United States.
