Kollam: A 24-year-old woman doctor, who was stabbed by a youth in Kottarakkara taluk hospital, died in Kollam District. The incident took place at the Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital in Kollam district around 4 am on Wednesday. The deceased was Dr Vandana Das, a native of Kottayam, was stabbed more than five times in various parts, including in the chest.
Five people, including the doctor and a police officer, were stabbed in the attack. Sandeep used hospital scissors to stab her. Sandeep, who comes from Kollam Pooyapally, was arrested by the police in the incident. According to sources, Dr Vandana Das, a single child of her parents, was attacked when Sandeep was taken for medical examination.
Giving details of the incident, an officer of Kottarakkara police station, said while a wound on the man's leg was being dressed by the lady doctor, he suddenly got provoked and attacked everyone standing there using a scissor and scalpel. The cop further said the man had called the emergency number to save him from his family members following a fight with them. When the police officers at the scene tried to stop him, he attacked them too. The man also vandalised some areas of the hospital, the officer said. "He was later subdued with much difficulty and taken into custody," the officer said.

The incident happened after Sandip was taken to the hospital following his leg injury. He was being taken to Kottarakkara Hospital for treatment by his family members for treatment. At the hospital, he attacked the doctor and the policemen with scissors. In the attack, Dr Das sustained a deep cut on her neck. She was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram but died. The reason for the attack was not known. An investigation is on to ascertain the reason of the attack.
