West Bengal: Kadaknath farming changing lives of tribal youths in Asansol

By linking tribal youths of Alladi village of Asansol subdivision in West Bengal's Paschim Bardhaman district with poultry farming of ‘Kadaknath’ chicken, the state government has brought significant change in their livelihoods. Aiming to bring positive changes in the lives of farmers and especially, youths in the district, the state government and district administration jointly hosted a training programme for giving technical knowledge about the farming of ‘Kadaknath’chicken. In the farm, the youths made some makeshift sheds from inexpensive items and started raising 300 chicks. With the farming of Kadaknath, these youths have managed to earn Rs 3 lakh per annum. Speaking to ETV Bharat, a young entrepreneur said," Although we started farming on a farm at first, now we are keeping chickens under the open sky. We built a mat house for the chicken. These chicken are very domesticated. Although they roam in open, wandering here and there, on the specified time and place they return home for their meal."
