Uttarakhand allows allopathic prescriptions by ayurvedic medics

Uttarakhand government has permitted Ayurvedic doctors to suggest allopathic prescriptions in emergency cases.

Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat has permitted Ayurvedic doctors in the state to prescribe allopathic medicine in emergency cases. Uttarakhand is the second state after Himachal Pradesh to implement this initiative.

Separately, state Ayush Minister Harak Singh Rawat said the state government will set up an Ayurveda Cancer Institute in Gurukula Kangri University, which will be India's first-ever Ayurveda Cancer Institute.

The state government has also announced 100 yoga wellness centres and wellness services in remote areas. Harak Singh Rawat disclosed Chief Minister Rawat's decision to start diploma and degree courses in Ayurveda University and a ₹10 crore fund for an international research institute at Charak Danda in Kotdwar.

A 25-bed ayurvedic hospital will be also be constructed in the district headquarters and 15-bed hospitals at the tehsil level, reports said. The Uttarakhand government has also planned Panchakarma Yoga Centers at hotels in Haridwar, Rishikesh, Nainital and Garhwal, according to reports.
