Rampur (UP): Actor-turned-politician Jaya Prada, who lost the 2019 Lok Sabha elections to senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan from Rampur, started campaigning for BJP for the Rampur assembly by-poll.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Jaya Prada told, "Public has been showering enough love and even contemplating why they didn't vote for me. In a span of 17 days, I couldn't visit all the places and there were known reasons why I lost."

"BJP won in most of the areas, except in Western UP. The reason being, we couldn't garner the votes of the Muslim community. I will definitely visit Rampur and I'm not upset with the public, but I request the public to vote for BJP as more avenues for the development will open up in the district," she said.

Hitting out at Azam Khan, Jaya Prada said that he is hungry for power and only promotes his family members.

"Azam Khan encroached upon the land of poor and now when the administration is taking action, he is crying. I cried for 10 years and was thrown from Rampur, did he think about my tears? He is an MP, his son is an MLA and his wife is a Rajya Sabha member. If he is not hungry for power, why is he bringing family members to politics? Give opportunity to people who have worked for him for 20 years. What has he done for the people? Due to his politics, the Rampur Raza Textiles and sugar mills were closed. The public will give him an answer on October 21," claimed Parda

Meanwhile, in the upcoming Rampur assembly by-poll, the Samajwadi Party has fielded Azam Khan's wife Tazeen Fatima against BJPs Bharat Bhusan Gupta.

It is to be noted that Jaya Prada is a two-time parliamentarian, who was thrown out of Samajwadi Party in 2010 after a fallout with party head Mulayam Singh Yadav.
