Man ditches 'celibacy vow' only to field his spouse in election

A 45-year-old man, hailing from the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh has broken his vow of not getting married throughout his life. He wanted to contest the Panchayat election, but after getting acquainted that the seat of his village was reserved for women, he got married to a woman hailing from the Chhapra district.

Balia (Uttar Pradesh): Hathi Singh, a 45-year-old man broke his vow to remain unmarried after learning that the panchayath (local body) seat he wanted to contest was reserved for women. Now Singh plans to field his wife Nidhi Singh in the forthcoming local body elections.

"Nothing is more important than the welfare of the village and service to the nation. So I got married to Nidhi Singh in order to take my village towards development," Singh said.

After the marriage, a video of the couple has gone viral on social media.
