Amritsar (Punjab) : In a late-night suspected explosion near Darbar Sahib, several people sustained minor injuries while the police officers arrived at the spot and started investigating the incident. They ruled out a bomb blast. One police officer who arrived at the spot said that a huge glass in the parking lot exploded with its broken pieces hitting and injuring some pilgrims. The huge glass explosion outside the Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib created mild tension in the area.
The pilgrims, who were sleeping during late night hours, were scared and some of them nearer to the blast site sustained minor injuries due to this explosion. They were given medical assistance immediately. The police officers also reached the spot and started an investigation. The pilgrims who were sleeping there and who came from outside said that they did not realise a huge explosion took place near them.
The pilgrims said that pieces of stone and glass came hurtling through the air and hit them. Some of the girls are also injured in the incident. They were sent for treatment. One pilgrim said that immediately after the explosion, the flames and smoke started rising. "We did not understand what happened. Whether a cylinder could have exploded, but it was not a bomb blast," he said.
The ACP (assistant commissioner of police) who reached the spot while giving information to the media said that there was no bomb blast. There was a huge mirror in the parking lot outside the Darbar Sahib, which exploded, he said. There is a restaurant next to the parking lot and its chimney was too hot. Gas was formed in it, and with the formation of gas, this glass broke and there was a loud explosion. There is nothing else to fear, the police officer said.
