Beed (Maharashtra): The local police in Beed district's Majalgaon city booked 4 people and detained 2 for putting up a banner hailing the recently shot politician-turned-gangster Atiq Ahmed, who was recently killed live on camera in Prayagraj amid heavy police security. The banner, put up at the Babasaheb Chowk in Majalgaon on Tuesday morning, regarded both Atiq and his brother Ashraf as martyrs, while it slated the Hindu community for his murder.

Police Inspector Shitalkumar Ballal said that the officials received information about one such banner displaying derogatory things against the Hindu community raised in the middle of a square in Majalgaon city. "It seems that some malicious forces have planned to give a communal colour to the death of gangster Atiq Ahmed. We received the information about the banner from an anonymous source. When we checked, there indeed was a banner that condemned the killing of Atiq Ahmed and his brother who were recently killed in UP. Meanwhile, we received a statement from groups like Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal regarding the said incident," Ballal said.

The officials have registered a case against the accused, who printed and put up the banner, under Sections 153-A, 188, 294, 295, 298, 505(2), and 34 of the Indian Penal Code based on a complaint filed by a person identified as Dutt Mande. The officials informed that the banner claimed that the murder of Atiq Ahmed is 'the murder of democracy', along with other derogatory things written against the Hindu community, which Atiq Ahmed's murderers who are currently under police custody, belong to.

In a dramatic turn of events, jailed gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf were shot dead by unidentified assailants while they were being escorted by police to a medical college in UP's Prayagraj on Saturday night. The shooting that occurred around 10 pm was caught on camera as media persons were following the handcuffed duo, who were being taken to the hospital by the police for a medical checkup.

A senior police officer said three people have been arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred just two days after Ahmad's son Asad was gunned down in a police encounter in Jhansi. At least three people, who posed as media persons, were seen firing from a close range at Ahmad (60) and Ashraf, who fell to the ground. Police soon overpowered the assailants.
