Wankhede, accused of extortion in the 2021 drugs-on-cruise case involving Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan has written a letter to Mumbai Police Commissioner and demanded security for himself and his wife “to prevent from meeting the same fate as Atiq Ahmad”.

Mumbai: Former Narcotics Control Bureau of India (NCB) officer Sameer Wankhede accused of extortion in the 2021 drugs-on-cruise case, has written to Mumbai Police Commissioner demanding security in view of “threats” to him and his wife, sources said on Monday. Wankhede is accused to have demanded Rs 25 crore extortion money from actor Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan for going easy on him in the drugs-on-cruise case of 2021.

It is learnt that Wankhede has written a letter to Mumbai Police Commissioner and demanded security for himself and his wife “to prevent from meeting the same fate as Atiq Ahmad”. Atiq Ahmad, the don-turned-politician accused in the Umesh Pal murder case, was shot dead along with brother Ashraf on the night of Apr. 15 while they were being taken for a medical test in Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh.

Wankhede has said that he and his wife are receiving threats for the last four days and “obscene messages” are coming to light on social media. Meanwhile, an urgent hearing was held on Monday afternoon before the division bench of Justice Sharmila Deshmukh, Justice Sharmila Deshmukh of the Bombay High Court over a plea by Wankhede in the case.

Wankhede is seeking the quashing of the FIR filed by the CBI against him in the Cordelia cruise drug bust case pertaining to Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan, who was arrested at that time and later released on bail. Earlier, the Bombay HC and Delhi HC directed the Central Bureau of Investigation not to take coercive action against Sameer Wankhede till May 22.
