Jammu and Kashmir: At least five militants were killed in two separate gunfights in the Kulgam and Pulwama areas of South Kashmir, J-K police said. "Five terrorists were killed in 24 hours in Kashmir. Congratulations to police and security forces for conducting ops without collateral damage: IGP Kashmir," J-K police tweeted.
Two militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba were killed in one of the gunbattles that took place in the Zodar area of Kulgam district. "02 terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT neutralised in a joint operation of Kulgam police & 01RR at Zodar area of Kulgam. Further details shall follow," police tweeted.
During a specific input of militants in the area, as security forces zeroed in, militants who had taken refuge in the area started firing indiscriminately upon the joint search party which led to an encounter.
Security forces have been conducting search operations in the Zadora area of Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir since last night. The operation was halted due to darkness and resumed in the morning.

Similarly in another operation, two militants were killed in a late-night encounter between militants and security forces in the Puchal area of Pulwama district, police said. However, their affiliation has not been revealed yet.
Earlier, on July 7, one of the longest surviving militants of Hizbul Mujahideen was killed in an encounter in the Handwara area of the Kupwara district.
Infiltration bid foiled
Meanwhile, the Army on Wednesday said it had killed a suspected militant in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri district as it foiled an infiltration bid.
According to a statement issued by the defence spokesman, "On the morning of July 7, 2021, a group of Pakistani militants tried to infiltrate the Line of Control in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri district. The Indian Army launched a search operation in the area. One militant was killed in the operation. The militant's body was recovered late in the evening.
One AK-47 rifle, four AK-47 magazines and ammunition were also recovered from the militant, the spokesman added.
