Kurukshetra: In Haryana's Kurukshetra, a team of youth gave a message to the country and the world to make single-use-plastic-free by creating a giant turtle from 87 thousand and 297 used plastic bags. The plastic turtle measured 6.6 feet high and 23 feet long.
Ritu, a student from Kurukshetra has prepared this turtle in collaboration with 100 other youths of NIC. After completing her graduation, Ritu has done post-graduation from Nalanda International University in Environmental Research. She has been working on a project to establish effects of climate change, environment and pesticides on human health.

The remarkable thing is that the shape of the turtle made by Ritu's team was made out of only used carry bags and thin plastic. The team involved describes it as the largest shape made of used-plastic. The team has also applied to claim for the world record.

Earlier on 21 April 2012 in Singapore, an octopus statue was made from used plastic which is also a world record. The statue of this turtle was created to break that record and to spread the message of not using plastic.
Ritu, on selecting the turtle to spread the message, said that the turtle is an organism that can live in both water and on land and has a life span of around 300 years. But the use of unbridled plastic and its side effects have spread so much that now the age of turtles has also reduced to a very low level.
Ritu said that not only human beings and animals, whether they are living on earth or living in water, no one is able to avoid the ill effects of plastic.
