Centre appoints Economic Affairs Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg as Finance Secretary

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved Subhash Chandra Garg as Finance Secretary. Additionally, President Ramnath Kovind has appointed former finance secretary Hasmukh Aadhia as the chancellor of the Gujarat University.

New Delhi: The government on Monday named economic affairs secretary Subhash Chandra Garg as Finance Secretary, according to a Personnel Ministry order.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved designating Garg as the Finance Secretary, it said.

58-year-old Garg, a 1983 batch IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre, has been working as the Secretary in Department of Economic Affairs since June 2017.

Former Finance Secretary Ajay Narayan Jha superannuated on February 28.

Mr Jha has taken over as Member, 15th Finance Commission.

Additionally, President Ramnath Kovind has appointed former finance secretary Hasmukh Aadhia as the chancellor of the Gujarat University.

Intro:New Delhi: In a major decision before the election code of conduct comes into effect, the central Governmnet has taken two major appointment.




Body:The cabinet committee of appointment has appointed Subhash Chandra Garg as the Finance Secretary.

However, in a notification President Ramnath Kovind has appointed former finance secretary Hasmukh Aadhia as the chancellor of the Gujarat University.




Conclusion:Both the appointments assumes special significance just ahead of the forthcoming general election. Sources, said that both Garg and Aadhai are in good books of the Modi Governmnet.
