New Delhi: Delhi's Karkardooma Court has slammed the Delhi Police for its poorly conducted investigations in cases related to the North-East Delhi riots. Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Yadav has directed the Delhi Police Commissioner to intervene in this regard.

The court made this remark while framing charges against Ashraf Ali, an accused in a case of Delhi riot. Ashraf Ali is accused of attacking Delhi police forces with acid, glass bottles, and bricks on 25 February 2020 during the Delhi violence. The court said that it is very sad that the quality of police investigation in most of the cases related to the Delhi riots is very poor. In most cases, the investigating officer himself does not appear in court.

The court said that the police hardly wants to complete the investigation of the case. Police files half-completed charge sheet. Due to which many accused are lodged in jails. The court said that Ashraf Ali's case is such in which the policemen themselves are victims. Despite that, the police investigating officer did not bother to collect the acid sample so that its chemical could be investigated. Apart from this, the investigating officer did not even take the opinion of the doctor on the nature of the wounds. The court said that the investigating officer does not even tell the full details of the case to the lawyers before presenting the arguments. They only e-mail the PDF copy of the charge sheet in the morning on the day of the hearing. The court directed the Delhi Police Commissioner to send a copy of this order and directed the Police Commissioner to take remedial action.

The court added that if needed, take the help of experts for this. It also warned that if the investigation is not done properly, it will be an injustice to the victims of the Delhi riots. Around 53 people were killed and more than 700 people were injured in the Delhi riots which happened in North East Delhi.

Meanwhile, the comment made by the court regarding the investigation in the Delhi riots is very shameful for the police. That too in such a case which was investigated by the fast-paced SIT. The then Commissioner of Delhi Police SN Srivastava, Special Commissioner, and other senior officers was monitoring it. Former DCP of Delhi Police, LN Rao has said that Delhi Police is counted among the very best police force, but recently the way the court has commented on their investigation regarding Delhi riots is very serious. He added that the criminals will get the benefit of this negligence.

Meanwhile, lawyers of Delhi associated with the case, have also expressed their unhappiness with the Delhi Police investigation. Saket court's lawyer Kamod Kumar says that the investigation of Delhi Police is not fair. The court has reprimanded the police many times due to the half-hearted investigation. Advocate Arun Kumar Gupta also said the investigating officers are lax in the Delhi riots case. He added that the investigating officers are not even able to tell the court how many cases were registered against which accused. Several accused have got bail because of this reason.
