Antyodaya Anna Yojana to provide free rations for the poor

The central government will provide food grains at cheaper rates to families living below the poverty line and to the physically disabled under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana. This government scheme, under the public distribution system, will provide 35 kgs of grains per family every month to BPL families and the physically disabled.

New Delhi: The central government will provide food grains at cheaper rates to families living below the poverty line and to the physically disabled under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana. This government scheme, under the public distribution system, will provide 35 kgs of grains per family every month to BPL families and physically disabled.

Under this scheme, 20 kgs of wheat will be provided at a rate of Rs. 2 per kg and 15 kgs of rice at Rs, 3 per kg. This scheme is mainly for poor families living in urban and rural areas. Families whose annual income is up to 15000 are the primary beneficiaries. Potters, weavers, carpenters, rickshaw drivers, garbage pickers, landless agricultural labourers, fruit sellers, daily wage earners, etc will benefit under this scheme.

To take advantage of this scheme, one needs to have an Aadhaar card, an affidavit stating that he has never held any ration card before, an identity and residence certificate, mobile number, passport size photographs and income certificate of the beneficiary issued by the administration.

In the ongoing corona crisis and lockdown, the central government has decided to give 5 kgs of foodgrains separately for free of cost to 80 crore people under PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. Out of these 80 crores, the beneficiaries of Antyodaya Anna Yojana are 9.74 crores. Antyodaya Anna Yojana will also give free ration in May and June.
