Six abducted persons rescued by Assam Rifles in Nagaland, five NSCN IM cadres arrested

The National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) is a Naga nationalist and separatist group operating mainly in Northeast India. The organisation mainly aims at establishing a sovereign Naga state, "Nagalim", which would consist of all the areas belonging to the Naga people in Northeast India and northwest Myanmar. There are two major factions of the NSCN, NSCN-K and NSCN-IM.

Tezpur(Assam): Assam Rifles in Nagaland rescued six abducted persons from National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) custody. These civilians were kidnapped by the rebel group between April 13 and 27. The rebel group demanded a ransom for the return of the civilians. Individuals have been rescued from Bamanpukhri House, apparently an illegal place for similar nefarious activities by the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak Muivah (NSCN IM). The NSCN IM cadres involved in this kidnap case have also been arrested. The army spokesperson in Guwahati Mahindra Rawat shared this information with the media.

The rescued individuals have been identified as Mulutayo Kezo, son of Pusazo, Akito Sumi, son of Hikavi, Raju Gupta, son of Ramesh Prasad Gupta, Raj Kumar Das, son of Manik Das, Piyar Ali, son of Ajgar Ali and Huvito Sumi, son of Ovito Sumi. All the victims were kidnapped on April 25, 27, 23, 21, 13 and 27 respectively.

The arrested cadres are SS Lt Khenito Assumi, son of Tolivi Assumi, Lt Neison, son of Late Rongneiegnk, Mughahuto, son of Late Hewoto, Chonpenthung Murry, son of Chenethung Murry and Katoho Yeptho, son of Late Khumtsa.
