Alleged honour killing reported in Prakasam of AP

Prakasam (Andhra Pradesh): In a suspected case of honour killing, reported as the second such incident within a span of three months, a man allegedly strangled his daughter at his residence in Kothapalem village of Talluru mandal in Prakasam district on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as K. Vaishnavi (20), pursuing her second year of graduation in a private college in Ongole town, and was allegedly killed by her father as the latter suspected that she was in love with a person and was planning to elope soon.

According to the police, the father - K. Krishna Reddy, resorted to the extreme step as he reportedly found out from his neighbours, that his daughter was in love with one - Sunil, hailing from the same college but belonging to a different caste and were planning to escape.

Infuriated over the development, Reddy assaulted and strangled her daughter in an 'impulsive act', fleeing from the scene.

The police, who have earlier registered a case of 'death under suspicious circumstances', have said that they would be altering the same to murder based on the autopsy report and launch an investigation.

A similar incident occurred on October 29' 2018, as a girl - K. Indra Kalavathi was killed by her father, a BSF constable, and had cremated her body near their residence in Giddalur town of Prakasam district.
