New Delhi : Former Indian skippers Dilip Vengsarkar and Mohammad Azharuddin are on the same platform over the ommission of Rishav Pant from the world cup bound squad. Speaking to two different media houses separately on separate occasions both seemed to be unanimous in this point.
Vengsarkar , who was also a chief selector , said that had he been in that position still , he would have picked Pant over Dinesh Karthik. He , however , commented that perhaps due to 'experience' M. S. K Prasad had picked Karthik ahead of Pant. "Pant is very talented, I was expecting him in the squad,” Vengarkar said while adding, “he is young and he is an in-form batsman. He should have been in the team".

It's true that Dinesh Karthik has over ten years of experience in his C. V. but it was the 21 year old Pant who caught the attention of the cricketing fraternity because of his explosive batting. However, due to the keeping skills of Karthik which had slight edge over Pant , Karthik was given a green signal as the backup to M. S. Dhoni.
Speaking to another media house , another former skipper Azharuddin said that it was 'unfair' to exclude Pant who had displayed impressive performance both against England and Australia in their own backyards. "Dinesh Karthik had been given enough chance but he failed to come up with anything worthy where as Pant caught everyone's attention within a very short span of time," said Azhar.
