Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed became the Director General of ISI. Earlier he served as the head of the Counter Intelligence wing of the ISI.

New ISI chief

Islamabad: Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed was appointed as the new Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence by Pakistan military.

He will be replacing Lieutenant General Asim Munir who was appointed to the post following the retirement of his predecessor Lt Gen Naveen Mukhtar.

Previously General Hameed was the head of the Counter Intelligence wing of the ISI.

According to media reports, on April 12 he was nominated for the Lieutenant General rank and later he was named as the Adjutant General as the General Headquarters.

Some changes were also made in the Pakistani military. Lt. Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza has been appointed as the Adjutant General, Lt. Gen Amir Abbasi the quartermaster at the General Headquarters.

ISI was formed in 1948 to boost the country's intelligence network. Earlier it was a part of the Intelligence Bureau which managed the flow of intelligence report between different branches of the military as well as external intelligence gathering.

In 1950 ISI was officially made in charge to safeguard Pakistani interests and national security.
