Lost in Translation: Afghanistan's reporter rubbishes reports of his death

Tolo News reporter, Ziar Yaad Khan rubbished reports of his death after an altercation with the Taliban. Khan took to Twitter to state that the report is false and clarified that he was beaten by the Taliban in Kabul's News city and was hit at gunpoint.

Hyderabad: TOLO News reporter, Ziar Yaad Khan rubbished media reports of his death in the hands of the Taliban. The news channel in which he is working itself reported his death. Earlier in the day, a section of media organisations accused Taliban of having killed Khan following a tweet put out by TOLO news in Dari(a dialect of Persian).

"I was beaten by the Taliban in Kabul's New City while reporting. Cameras, technical equipment and my personal mobile phone have also been hijacked. Some people have spread the news of my death which is false. The Taliban got out of an armored Land Cruiser and hit me at gunpoint," tweeted Mr Khan. Tolo News is Afghanistan's first independent news channel.

Earlier Reuters photojournalist, Danish Siddiqui was killed on July 16 by the Taliban. His body was badly mutilated while in the custody of the Taliban, Afghan officials said. Siddiqui was a 38-year-old Indian national who took some of the most memorable news photographs from South Asia in recent years.

The Taliban entered the Afghan capital on August 15 and proclaimed victory over the government after months of violence. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani fled the country after the Taliban's take over and he is reportedly in UAE. The 20-year-old US's campaign in the country came to end and tensions escalated in the country.
