New Delhi: A high-level official from India is currently in Doha to participate in Afghanistan peace talks which is underway, confirmed the Ministry of External Affairs. External Affairs Joint Secretary (Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan) JP Singh is presently in Doha participating in the talks on the Afghan peace process along with several important stakeholders from Afghanistan. The meeting will further discuss the support of the international community, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said during a weekly media briefing on Thursday. More details on the meeting will be shared soon, Bagchi added.

Bagchi said that a high-level visitor- Qatar special envoy for counter-terrorism and mediation of conflict resolution, Mutlaq Bin Majed Al-Qahtan was in India earlier this week.

Mutlaq during his visit met External Affairs Minister Dr Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla and discussions were held on the situation in Afghanistan and the need for a peaceful and stable Afghanistan. He also discussed bilateral relations with Secretary (CPV) in the MEA.

"It is of concern. It is a rapidly evolving situation. We continue to hope that there will be an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire. We are supporting all peace initiatives of Afghanistan. The primary concern is peace and stability in that country", Bagchi further added.

The situation in Afghanistan is taking an ugly turn with each passing day as the Taliban on Thursday captured the tenth provincial capital Ghazni.

Meanwhile, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has raised with the international community the grave concerns of the Government and people of Afghanistan over the Taliban's brutal attacks on cities, which have led to war crimes and blatant human rights violations and humanitarian catastrophe in Afghanistan.

The Afghan negotiating team headed by the Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation Dr Abdullah, attended on Wednesday the extended Troika meeting with the participation of Russia, the US, China, and Pakistan in Doha, expressly echoing the Afghan people and government’s demands. However, India was not invited to the 'extended Troika' meeting convened by Russia.
