New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion of 77th Independence day, said the country stands with the people of Manipur and expressed confidence that there shall be a peaceful resolution of the problems there.
The northeastern State which is suffering from ethnic-violence since May this year.
He said that there has been a period of unrest and violence in Manipur and news of attacks on the dignity of women. He said the people of Manipur are maintaining peace for sometime. He requested that the process of peace be carried forward.

"Last few weeks in North-East, especially in Manipur and also in some other parts of India, many people have lost their lives. The modesty of mothers and daughters was outraged. There have been now reports of prevalence of peace."
The country should take forward the peace that the people of Manipur have maintained for the last few days. The path to a solution (for this crisis) will emerge only through peace, PM Modi suggested.
"Centre and State government are making all efforts to solve the issue. We will continue to do so."

Modi praised the bonding between the states, the empathy prevailing among them and their show of unity.
He said when the unity of the country is as such that if an incident happens in Manipur, then people of Maharashtra feel its pain.
If Assam gets flooded, Kerala responds to the situation empathetically feeling the restlessness. Modi said that whatever happens in any part of India, it will be felt across the country as if how the organs would react in (human) body.
He also urged that the daughters of this country should not be oppressed. He said it will our social and family responsibility. It will be responsibility of all of us as a country, he added.
