Pithoragarh (Uttarakhand): Days after Nepal's parliament passed a new map, which depicts Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura as parts of its territory, military activities have been increased on the India-Nepal border.

On Wednesday, Nepalese Army Chief Puran Chandra Thapa and Nepal Armed Force (NAF) IG Shailendra Swanal inspected a border post in Darchula near the Kalapani area.

They inspected the recently created Chhangru post, which has been created and deployed with NAF jawans, and later they also made an aerial survey of that area. This is the army chief’s first visit to the area after the border dispute erupted with India.

By visiting the border area, the Nepalese army chief has raised a few eyebrows in the Indian side. It is to be noted that Nepal has beefed-up security since the inclusion of Indian territory Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura into its map.

After their visit, the Indian security agency has been told to be on high alert. Meanwhile, Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB) has also intensified their patrolling along with the border area and it is keeping extra vigilance on Kalapani river too.

SSB 11 Batallion Commandant Mahendra Pratap said that currently there is peace prevailing on India and Nepal border.

"Jawans have been deployed between Jauljibi and Kalapani and they have been put on extra alert mode. Besides, we are also in touch with Nepalese Armed force on a regular basis," said Pratap.

It is pertinent to mention here that Nepal had registered its protest at India inaugurating an almost 80 km-long road till near the Lipulekh Pass. It also claimed that 26 km of this road passed through its territory and had thereafter started setting up armed police force outposts along the border with Uttarakhand.
