IMD Forecast: Low pressure area over Bay of Bengal likely to become well marked in 48 hours

India Meteorological Department, in its bulletin, stated that low-pressure area over the East-central and adjoining West-central Bay of Bengal persists with the associated cyclonic circulation extending mid-tropospheric levels tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and become well marked during the next 48 hours.

New Delhi: A low-pressure area formed over the East-Central Bay of Bengal is likely to move towards West-Northwest and become well marked in the next 48 hours, informed India Meteorological Department (IMD), on Wednesday.

In its bulletin, IMD stated, "The low-pressure area over the East-central and adjoining West-central Bay of Bengal persists with the associated cyclonic circulation extending mid-tropospheric levels tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and become well marked during the next 48 hours."

It further said that under the influence of this low-pressure area, fairly widespread rainfall accompanied is expected over Odisha, north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during June 10-11 and over central India during June 11-13.

Recently, Cyclone Amphan in the Bay of Bengal made a landfall in Odisha and West Bengal, lashing out the coastal areas with ferocious wind and rain. At least 72 people lost their lives in West Bengal because of the cyclonic storm.

IMD also informed that the Southwest Monsoon has further advanced in the remaining parts of Tamil Nadu, most parts of Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura, and some parts of Assam and Nagaland.

Conditions are becoming favourable for further advancement of Southwest monsoon in some parts of Goa, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh during next 48 hours.

Conditions are also likely to become favourable subsequently for the advancement of monsoon into some more parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Telangana, remaining parts of Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh, remaining parts of Bay of Bengal and North-Eastern states along with Sikkim, parts of Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal during subsequent 24 hours.
