New Delhi: The Union Government’s dream project the Jal Jeevan Mission has started to offer skilled training related to water connection in several villages. The initiative has been taken up to ensure that the locals do not face any difficulty in managing the Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC).

The JJM aims to provide safe drinking water of 55 Litre Per Capita Per Day (LPCD) to all the households with Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC).

The migrant workers are being used for the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission in Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh.

Now, the government will be selecting a few people from the village and train them for managing the Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) according to an officer associated with the initiative.

“Carpenter works, Mason jobs, plumbing skills are required for the JJM. Therefore, we are selecting certain communities and giving them the above training. This skilled workforce inside the village would fix if there is any issue in the water connection,” the officer added.

Earlier, there was only one tank operator. He was responsible for everything pertaining to the water connection. In some cases, villagers have to wait for days for the arrival of plumbers, masons, and carpenters from nearby towns.

“But with this initiative villagers themselves will be able to repair the issues in the FHTC,” the officer told ETV Bharat.

When asked whether the government will pay for the workers, the officer said that will be done by the village water and sanitation committee.

“After giving the training by the government, the tools and materials would be directly provided by the village panchayats. The village water and sanitation committee would pay them,” he noted.
