Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh administration has decided to seal virus hotspots in 15 districts and enforce a complete lockdown as a measure to prevent stage-3 of the COVID-19 spread ie, community transmission.
According to reports, no movement will be allowed in these districts and curfew pass will be issued to facilitate any sort of movement depending upon the nature of emergency.
The marked hotspots in districts- Lucknow, Agra, Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Kanpur, Varanasi, Shamli, Meerut, Bareilly, Bulandshahr, Firozabad, Maharajganj, Basti, Sitapur and Saharanpur- will go under complete lockdown from midnight.
Addressing the media, UP additional chief secretary said that zones have been identified in each of this districts and a complete lockdown will be enforced in order to isolate and seal the hotspots.
According to him, Agra has 22 hotspots, Ghaziabad has 13, Varanasi, Saharanpur has four, Kanpur has 12, Basti has three and Bareilly has one.
According to state administration, all these districts have recorded more than six cases each and it is expected the spread will enter the stage of community transmission in coming weeks. Further decision regarding the sealed district will be taken on April 30.
According to the Union Health Ministry and Family Welfare, 334 people tested positive for COVID-19 with a bulk of them having links to Nizamuddin markaz gathering.
