The island country is going through one of its worst financial crises. The government declared a nationwide public emergency and enforced a 36-hour curfew ahead of a planned anti-government rally over the crisis in the country.

Amid the countrywide crisis, reports of Sri Lanka Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa resigning have been refuted by the PMO office. Several news portals quoting sources had earlier reported that the PM had tendered his resignation to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, to ensure immediate political stability within the government.

However, the reports were refuted by the Media Secretary of the Lankan PM. The island country is going through one of its worst financial crises. The government declared a nationwide public emergency and enforced a 36-hour curfew ahead of a planned anti-government rally over the crisis in the country. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa issued a special gazette notification late on Friday night, declaring a public emergency in Sri Lanka with immediate effect from April 1.
