3. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Hua Chunying, Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson:
"I don't know what he (Chris Patten, last British governor of Hong Kong) thinks about the small group of radical and violent perpetrators that vandalised the buildings of the Legislative Council and the Liaison Office. Regarding the incidents that happened in Hong Kong recently, Mr Patten turned a blind eye on the facts and talked about it selectively. He avoided discussing the attack on the Legislative Council and the Liaison Office buildings that impacted Hong Kong's legal foundation. His true intention is very clear and I believe everyone can see through it. China's position on this issue is resolute; that we firmly oppose any foreign interference in Hong Kong's internal affairs. We hope that they can shut up and pull back their hands on this issue as soon as possible."

5. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Hua Chunying, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman:
"I don't think this (reports that a delegation from Germany's Free Democratic Party was poorly received during a trip to China last week) is the truth. China is a country of ceremonies and we receive our guests with respect and appropriate etiquette. As you mentioned, the German Free Democratic Party delegation led by its chairman (Christian) Lindner, did pay a visit to China recently. This visit is a normal inter-party exchange between the Chinese Communist Party and the German Free Democratic Party. Officials from the International Liaison Department have exchanged views with the delegation on the relations between the two parties and two countries, and clearly stated China's position on the issue of Hong Kong. The current comprehensive China-Germany strategic partnership is at a critical stage of development. We hope that the major political parties in Germany, including the Free Democratic Party, will do something conducive and constructive to enhancing political mutual trust and friendly cooperation between the two countries."

STORYLINE:
China's Foreign Ministry on Wednesday criticised comments made by Hong Kong's last British governor, saying that he "turned a blind eye on the facts" and that foreigners should "shut up" on the issue.
Chris Patten expressed concern over a mob of men in white beating pro-democracy protesters at a Hong Kong subway station on Sunday during an interview with Hong Kong broadcaster RTHK.
Patten said he was surprised that the police didn't step in that day, or on July 1 when protesters broke into Hong Kong's Legislative Council.
Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hua Chunying spokesperson called Patten's comments "selective".
"We firmly oppose any foreign interference in Hong Kong's internal affairs," Hua said. "We hope that they can shut up and pull back their hands on this issue as soon as possible."
Protesters have taken to Hong Kong's streets for almost two months to fight a proposed extradition bill and call for electoral reforms in the Chinese territory.
Violence has escalated in repeated confrontations between demonstrators and police.
Hua also denied reports, first published in German magazine Der Spiegel, that a delegation from Germany's Free Democratic Party was poorly received during a trip to China last week.
The magazine reported that the delegation was berated over German support for Hong Kong's protest and asylum granted to Hong Kong dissidents, and that meetings with Chinese officials were cancelled.
"China is a country of ceremonies, and we receive our guests with respect and appropriate etiquette," Hua said.
"We hope that the major political parties in Germany, including the Free Democratic Party, will do something conducive and constructive to enhancing political mutual trust and friendly cooperation between the two countries."
