4. SOUNDBITE (English) Olivia Colman, Helena Bonham Carter, actresses:
Carter: "I had all the friends -- I met lots of people who knew the real Margaret. And they said that they really did love each other. There was enough of the affection and the positive support that Margaret was to the queen. And I think we get more of that in Season 3 and 4. The sibling rivalry is definitely explored in episode two, isn't it? But it's something we can all relate to. There are two very different people born from the same parents."
Colman: "And also they started off with the potential to be much more equal. And suddenly when the abdication happened, one was shot into a different direction which must be -- now you're my sister and now you've to go and do something else."
Carter: "Yes. Real abandonment too and from Margaret's perspective, she lost not only her dad, because he died. And she lost her best friend, because you had -- and there's also a loss that happens when your best friend gets married, too. You went and found Philip. And it's like, there's a lot of isolation -- there is -- and loneliness in Margaret's life. That's what Vanessa actually said in passing. I said, is there any big thing that you've got to teach me? And she said, 'Lot of loneliness.'"

STORYLINE:
COLMAN, BONHAM CARTER ON 'AFFECTION' BETWEEN QUEEN ELIZABETH AND PRINCESS MARGARET
Helena Bonham Carter says she met with many friends of the real Princess Margaret while researching the role of Queen Elizabeth's sister in the Netflix drama "The Crown."
"They said that they really did love each other. There was enough of the affection and the positive support that Margaret was to the queen. And I think we get more of that in Season 3 and 4," she said. "The sibling rivalry is definitely explored in episode two, isn't it? But it's something we can all relate to. There are two very different people born from the same parents."
Olivia Colman takes over from Claire Foy in the role of Queen Elizabeth in the 10-episode series, premiering on Netflix on Sunday (17 NOVEMBER 2019).
She agrees: "They started off with the potential to be much more equal. And suddenly when the abdication happened, one was shot into a different direction which must be -- now you're my sister and now you've to go and do something else."
Carter says Vanessa Kirby, who played Princess Margaret in the first two seasons, told her the key to the character was "lots of loneliness."
"Real abandonment too and from Margaret's perspective, she lost not only her dad, because he died. And she lost her best friend, because you had -- and there's also a loss that happens when your best friend gets married, too. You went and found Philip. And it's like, there's a lot of isolation -- there is -- and loneliness in Margaret's life. That's what Vanessa actually said in passing," she said.
