BSF apprehends illegal immigrants, returns them as goodwill gesture

Twelve Bangladeshis and three Indian nationals were apprehended at the South Bengal border by members of the Border Security Force who handed them over to Border Guards of Bangladesh.

South Bengal Border (West Bengal): During intervening night of January 2 and 3, troops of the Border Security Force apprehended twelve Bangladeshi and three Indian nationals when they tried to cross International Boundary (IB) illegally through the location of border districts of South Bengal borders.

As a gesture of a humanitarian attitude and goodwill, BSF handed over seven Bangladeshi nationals to Border Guard Bangladesh on January 2. These citizens were handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) during the flag meetings. Four Bangladeshi nationals were handed over to BGB Border Out Post Kakdanga, 33 BGB. One Bangladeshi national was handed over to BGB Border Out Post Charmazardiar, 1ST BGB. One Bangladeshi national was handed over to BGB Border Out Post Chilmari, 47 BGB. One was handed over to BGB Border Out Post Jadhavpur, 58 BGBG as a goodwill gesture.

On January 2, acting on a specific input received from BSF intelligence branch regarding illegal migration from India to Bangladesh side from the area of Border Out Post Ramnagar troops on the duty were alerted accordingly. In the morning at about 5.50 a.m. the BSF troops observed some suspicious movement from India side in the Banana orchard. BSF troops carried out search operation in the concerned area and found some miscreants hidden in a Banana orchard. BSF troops challenged and pursued them and nabbed one Indian and four Bangladeshi Nationals. The rest fleed by taking advantage of Banana orchard and foggy weather. After that apprehended persons were brought to the Border Out Post Ramnagar.

An illegal immigrant, Pranto Chaki revealed that he went to Chhoti Chupri from Bagula by auto & stayed at a tout's home at night and paid Rs. 10000/- to him to cross the border illegally. He noticed there were three men and one woman too. He revealed the tout name as Haider Mondal, of Nadia, West Bengal, he further stated that Haider (tout) stayed at the home and send an unknown carrier with them to cross the border illegally. Other apprehended person stated that they came from Mumbai to Howrah and Howrah to Bagula by train and travelled further from Bagula to Chhoto Chupri by auto and Chhoto Chupri to border area by foot with the help of an unknown carrier.

Apprehended persons along with seized items were handed over to Hanskhali Police Station for further legal action. During questioning of by the police, it came into the notice that Pranto Chaki is actually a Bangladeshi national who migrated to India since six years ago and presently residing in Bagula with his parents and studying in the ninth class.

Besides, the BSF troops succeeded in foiling attempts of the illegal crossing as well as apprehended three persons when they tried to cross International Boundary (IB) from Bangladesh to India side and apprehended five persons when they tried to cross International Boundary (IB) from India to Bangladesh side from their respective areas of responsibilities in South Bengal Border.

BSF is taking strong steps to curb the illegal migration and human trafficking on the Indo – Bangladesh Border. Due to which miscreants are facing problems in carrying out their activities in the bordering area. Many of them are being caught and booked for committing crimes.
