India's first woman to face execution since independence

Rampur: Shabnam, one of the two convicts in the sensational Amroha murder case, is all set to be executed in Mathura jail.

She was awarded death penalty for killing seven members of her family in 2008.

Her lover Salim, who was also involved in the killings, was also sentenced to death. The date of hanging, however, is not fixed yet.

As per sources, once the execution date is fixed, execution will be carried out by the Hangman Pawan also known as Pawan Jallad.

Pawan is a professional executioner like his father and the previous three generations and has learned the details of executing a hanging from them.

It is learnt that Mathura jail administration has already ordered the rope used for hanging death row convicts.

It is to be noted that Shabnam had challenged the lower court's order in Supreme Court but the apex court had upheld the decision of the lower court.

After this, Shabnam and Salim sent a mercy petition to the President, but their plea got rejected.

She will be the first female prisoner to be hanged after India's Independence.

she is currently behind bars at Bareilly, while Salim is lodged in Agra jail.
