Muslims in India: AIMIM Chief Owaisi advises RSS chief to check constitution

All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen chief reacts sharply to RSS chief's latest controversial statements. He also made remarks on the Afghanistan situation and caste-based census while announcing his party's strategy for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh election

Hyderabad: Asaduddin Owaisi, All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief, on Tuesday gave one big piece of advice to Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagat to help him know the origin of Muslims in India: Refer to the constitution.

Reacting sharply to Mohan Bhagwat's explanation on the Hindu-Muslim divide in the country, Owaisi said 'Sanghis' knowledge of history is weak. Bhagwat must know Mughal leaders Bahadur Shah, Tipu Sultan's photographs are inscribed on the Indian constitution, he added.

"Sometimes the RSS chief says the DNA of Muslims and Hindus are the same, lynching is wrong. When one refers to history, it will be known that Muslims came through the west coast and not through invaders," said the AIMIM chief, also a member of Parliament from Hyderabad.

The AIMIM leader was addressing the media in Lucknow to announce his party's strategy in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly election. "We are gearing up to field 100 candidates in the UP Assembly polls," he said.

When media persons asked if candidates from other communities will be permitted in the party, Owaisi said that all communities are welcome. There will be a balance established between every community, especially, OBC, Dalit members. Further mentioning the caste-based census, he pointed out that the proportion of the population versus the number of legislators. He also raised the demand for the caste-based census in the country.

While commenting on the situation in Afghanistan, Owaisi questioned why the group is not delisted while India heads the sanction committee in the United Nations. He also asked why the group is not termed "terrorist" under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

Quoting, Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) operative chief's words during an interview with a media outlet, Owaisi said that the situation in Afghanistan will not be favourable for India. He quoted the official and said that India's Muslims are alienated and religious nationalism will not favour well. He also said that Pakistan will get benefited from the current situation in Afghanistan.

The AIMIM announced that it will field 100 candidates for the 403-member Assembly in Uttar Pradesh. AIMIM won five seats out of 20 it contested in Bihar Assembly elections 2020. However, the party failed to win a seat in West Bengal.
