Dungarpur (Rajasthan): In a unique wedding ceremony, a couple from Rajasthan's Dungarpur district got married via a video call, as the groom was stranded in South Africa.
Rucha Pandya and Markandey Trivedi, both hail from the district's Dhambhola village. Trivedi currently works as an accountant in South Africa and has been staying abroad for over three years.
The families of the couple had fixed June 29 as the date of the wedding and had begun preparations around six months back. Though the coronavirus induced lockdown was imposed in late March, the families were hopeful that the situation would normalise by June end.
However, with international flight services still on hold, the groom has been stranded in South Africa and was unable to return home.
The families then decided to proceed with the wedding anyway and chose to get it done via video call.
The bride, along with both the families, then went to a lawyer at the Simalwara court and got the wedding conducted via a video call.
Post the virtual wedding, the newly-married bride proceeded to her in-laws' for the rest of the rituals.
