New Delhi: A delegation of Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party leaders including state BJP President Ashwini Sharma met President Ramnath Kovind on Monday and placed a request to reopen the Kartarpur Corridor on the occasion of Guru Nanak Gurpurab. Earlier on Sunday, the delegation also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed about the same.

After the meeting, Ashwini Sharma said that the Kartarpur Corridor which was closed due to Covid induced lockdown, should be reopened for the devotees on the occasion of Guru Nanak Gurpurab on November 19. Speaking further he said, "We met the President as well as Prime Minister and discussed about it. The President stated that he would discuss the matter with the government,"

Talking about compensation announced by the Congress-led state government to the leaders who insulted the Tricolor at the Red Fort, the BJP leader said, "Nothing wrong with agitation in a democracy. But those people have insulted the tricolor and this is against the constitution and law. That's why announcement made by the Channi's government is insufficient,"

Reacting to a question over speculation about the alliance of Bharatiya Janata Party with the upcoming party of Captain Amarinder Singh, the BJP leader said," there are no chances of alliances with the Singh's party. As party state president it is my responsibility to check the works of the party and forward them to the party headquarters".

Meanwhile, Punjab BJP General Secretary Dayal Singh Sodhi while talking to ETV Bharat said, "the demand for the opening of Kartarpur corridor has been placed before the government and it is believed that the government will give its positive response. The leaders of Punjab have once again written to Prime Minister demanding that Children's day should be celebrated in the names of sons of Guru Gobind Singh who sacrificed their lives for the nation."
