Guna (Madhya Pradesh): To probe the alleged beating of a Dalit couple by the police in Guna town of Madhya Pradesh, a seven-member committee formed by Congress reached the District Headquarter Hospital and took cognizance of the health condition of the injured people on Friday afternoon.

To investigate the incident, the panel comprised by state Congress working presidents Ramniwas Rawat and Surendra Choudhary, former ministers Bala Bachchan and Jaivardhan Singh, MLA Dr Hiralal Alawa, former MLA Phool Singh Barraiya and state Congress spokesman and former Bhopal mayor Vibha Patel reached the hospital and also urged for a high-level probe into the incident.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Congress leader, Jaivardhan Singh said," The incident on was very sad and the incident has been condemned everywhere. While many more people were involved in this incident, no action has been taken so far. Surprisingly, Shivraj Chouhan led government could not reach any solution even after 24 hours. Keeping this in view, Congress state president Kamal Nath has constituted an inquiry committee and sent it to us. We will send a report to the state Congress committee after conducting a full investigation and raise the issue at the national level."

"It is clear that the BJP is not taking this issue seriously. If they had taken this issue seriously, they would have conducted a fair investigation. Our family has been donating land for temples and for the poor for almost 200 years and till date, we have no such accusation. The public will never tolerate such kind of matter and the public will answer in the upcoming election," Singh said.

Notably, after widespread outrage over alleged police brutality against a Dalit farmer couple, caught on tape, during an anti-encroachment drive in Jaganpur Chak village of Guna district, six policemen, including a Sub-Inspector and two women constables, were suspended Thursday.

Reportedly, the suspension followed the transfer of Guna District Collector S Vishwanathan and Superintendent of Police Tarun Nayak late Wednesday.
