Sibling bond: Rakhi prices hit the roof, Rs 2,500 to Rs 5 lakh apiece in Gujarat

This year, special Rakhis are being displayed on the occasion of Rakshabandhan. There is a demand for gold, platinum and especially real diamond Rakhis in the festival of Raksha Bandhan at Gujarat this year.

Surat/Rajkot (Gujarat): Special Rakhis made of gold, platinum and real diamonds are in demand at this Rakhi festival in Surat. The price of these rakhis range from Rs 2,500 to Rs 5 lakh. Rakhis with pendants of gold and diamond which could be worn with a chain and rakhis made like gold bracelet with studded diamonds are in good demand this year. In a marketing caption, jewelers say that a sister wants her brothers to shine like a real diamond.

The jewel shop owners also say that rakhis with religious symbols of Lord Ganesha and peacock feather shape along with diamonds in it are also in great demand this year. Even rakhis with Rudraksh attached to gold and silver chains are also sought after. Dipak Choksi, a jeweler from Surat told ETV Bharat that all the materials used in making these rakhis are thoroughly sanitized.

A real diamond rakhi price starts from Rs. 2,500 and goes upto Rs. 5 lakhs. Sisters prefer to have expensive rakhis as a gift which can be useful for their brothers as an investment in future.

A gold trader from Rajkot has made pure gold and silver rakhis. Siddharth Sahulia, a rakhi maker said to ETV Bharat that "silver and gold rakhis are in demand this year like previous year. The sales which were low last year due to pandemic have picked up now. This year the demand for these gold and silver rakhis is coming from various parts of Gujarat."

Apart from this, they have also started selling these rakhis online. Consumers from other states are also buying these Rakhis in large quantities, Sahulia said. There are 45 to 50 different varieties of Rakhis in Gold and Silver. This trader has rakhis ranging from Rs 200 to Rs 10,000.
