New entry, exit plan for passengers at Delhi's railway stations

The Northern Railway issued an entry and exit plan for passengers at the major railway stations of Delhi, as the Indian Railways begins operations of 200 special trains from today.

New Delhi: With the railways beginning operations of 200 special trains from Monday, the major railway stations of the national capital have chalked out entry and exit plans for passengers.

On the first day, four special trains are scheduled from the New Delhi Railway Station.

Northern Railway Chief PRO Deepak Kumar informed that entry and exit from the station will be through the Ajmeri Gate and Paharganj sides. Both the sides have multiple gates, which will be split separately for entry and exit.

For the past few days, passengers had to enter from the Paharganj side and exit from the Ajmeri Gate side, but now both sides have been opened.

However, at the Delhi Junction Railway Station (Old Delhi), entry and exit have been limited to only the Chandni Chowk side. Gates at the station's Kashmere Gate side have been closed.

On the first day, no train is scheduled to originate or terminate at the station, but one passing train will be halting here in the night.

Arrangements for the thermal screening of passengers and baggage checking at the station remain as they were before.

Meanwhile, at the Hazrat Nizamuddin Station, gates at the Sarai Kale Khan side have been closed, and passengers will have to enter and exit only through the Bhogal side.

Kumar said that arrangements have been made at all stations to ensure the safety of passengers in view of the pandemic. While arrangements have already in place at the New Delhi station, from where special trains were already plying, today the Hazrat Nizamuddin station will be going live for the first time since the lockdown.

The Northern Railways also advised passengers to carry their own food and water from home and travel with light luggage. It added that bedroll and linen will no be provided.

The Railways had yesterday said it will begin operations of 200 special trains from June 1 and more than 1.45 lakh passengers will travel on the first day. These services will be in addition to Shramik Special trains and 30 Special AC trains being run since May 12

Passengers will have to reach the station at least 90 minutes before departure and only travellers with confirmed or RAC tickets will be allowed to enter railway station and board trains, the Railways said.

According to MHA guidelines, all travellers will be compulsorily screened and only asymptomatic passengers will be allowed to enter or board a train.
