JEE Advanced 2020: IITs mull syllabus cut, changes in exam format

The Indian Institutes of Technology will discuss reducing the exam syllabus and changing the entrance exam format for the coming JEE Advanced. This among other proposals will be pitched for discussion at the review meeting of Joint Admission’s Board. The meeting is scheduled to be held in the coming week and the final decision will only be taken after the meeting.

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) will discuss reducing of syllabus and changing the entrance exam format for the upcoming JEE Advanced, along with other proposals at the review meeting of Joint Admission’s Board (JAB) which is scheduled to be held next week.

The final decision will be taken only after the meeting.

As per rules, it is mandatory for a candidate to have at least 75 percent marks in boards or be in the top 20 percentile of the class 12 exams.

After the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had decided to cut their syllabus by 30 percent, it is being noticed that, this might have a descent effect on NEET and JEE entrance exams for medical and engineering students respectively. These entrance exams are based on their syllabus of Class 11 and 12 CBSE board.

Those IITs conducting JEE Advanced would put up the new syllabus for a review in front of the committee and paper setters for a complete evaluation of the reduction of 30% in the syllabus.

CBSE reduced the syllabus for the students keeping in view the pandemic outbreak.

The CBSE on Tuesday announced its revised syllabus for the 2020-21 academic session due to COVID-19 outbreak where key topics like laws of motion, optics, communication system and electronic devices in physics, 3D geometry, continuity, differentiability, binomial theorem in mathematics, some P-block elements, environmental chemistry, polymers, general principles and processes of isolation of elements in chemistry and human physiology and reproduction, among others, in biology were dropped.
