Later, three more fire engines were dispatched to douse the blaze.

Nine fire vehicles are currently on the spot to control the blaze at the site, they said.

Further details are awaited.

Earlier, a fire broke out in the Mayapuri area after a spark in high tension wire escalated, engulfing the nearby shops and a motorcycle.

A major accident was averted as work on Indraprastha Gas (IGL) pipeline work was underway very close to the incident spot.

When the fire gutted a nearby shop, several small cylinders also burst after which the inferno spread rapidly.

A shop owner and his wife suffered minor injuries in the incident.
