Farm laws introduced to hurt farmers, says Kirti Azad

Congress leader and former member of parliament Kirti Azad said the government must abolish the laws to ensure decent work and peace for the farmers of the country

New Delhi: Terming the recently formed farm laws "anti-farmers", Congress leader Kirti Azad has said they were made to "destroy the farmers" in India.

Interacting with ETV Bharat here, the former cricketer asked why the government cannot mention in the law that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system would continue despite the new arrangements made by it.

"The government says that the MSP system would not go anywhere but why can't they mention it in the laws," he asked, saying that the framers of the country would continue to raise their voice against the laws unless the government does not make the required changes or abolish them.

'Farm laws anti-farmers, brought in to destroy them'

He said the government must abolish the laws in case it wants the farmers to live and work peacefully.

Giving an example of how farmers were being "looted" by the traders ever since the ordinance in this regard came, he said the farmers had to sell their produce at half the MSP because of the new legislation.

Congress leader and former member of parliament Kirti Azad said the government must abolish the laws to ensure decent work and peace for the farmers of the country.

He said the Congress is with the farmers and would not allow the government to behave in an autocratic manner.
