Revenue dept demolishes compound wall of GITAM in Visakhapatnam

The compound wall and the entrance gate of the Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM) in Visakhapatnam, were demolished by revenue officials early today morning.

Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh): The Revenue Department demolished the compound wall of the Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM) in Visakhapatnam early on Saturday morning.

According to reports, earthmovers had been demolishing the compound wall and main entrance gate of the prominent private university since midnight.

The varsity management alleged that the demolition was carried out without proper notice

Further, the authorities also closed the road leading to the University, even as demolition continued amid heavy police deployment.

The varsity management alleged that the demolition was carried out without proper notice. The management also alleged that officials were refusing to provide a reason for the demolition.

Meanwhile, an official said that GITAM had illegally occupied nearly 40.51 acres of land belonging to the government.
